Mansfield Leaning
Utility Poles.
Many of you have asked for some help with the
potentially dangerous leaning utility poles in
Mansfield. I'm happy to say that the problem has
been resolved. I'd like to thank Councilmember
Darryl Haynes for bringing this issue to our
attention and helping us get it resolved.

Mansfield Officials in
Austin
On February 17, 2009 a bus load of city, chamber and
school board officials came to Austin to meet with
their Representative, Paula Pierson on Mansfield
Day.

Rep. Paula Pierson
will Serve on Urban Affairs and Criminal
Jurisprudence Committees
AUSTIN --
February 12, 2009, State Representative Paula
Pierson (D-Arlington, Grand Prairie, Mansfield)
received appointments to two influential committees
for the 81st Legislative Session. Representative
Pierson was named to the House Committee on Criminal
Jurisprudence and the House Committee on Urban
Affairs.
"I am eager to begin working on the issues which
come before these very important committees," stated
Pierson. "I look forward to resuming my role in the
Criminal Jurisprudence Committee, and representing
the cities of Arlington, Grand Prairie and Mansfield
in my work in Urban Affairs."
Rep. Pierson said that her committee assignments for
this session grant her the opportunity to work
directly on issues that impact the 93rd district.
Pierson, who served eight years in the Arlington
City Council and is a successful businesswoman,
expressed eagerness to serve on the Urban Affairs
Committee, which oversees issues pertaining to
cities and municipalities.
"For the Urban Affairs Committee, I anticipate
calling on my years of experience in city government
and business. In these challenging economic times,
the people of Arlington, Grand Prairie and Mansfield
need to know that their cities -- and all Texas
cities -- are being protected. As a member of the
Urban Affairs Committee, I will work to foster
economic development in Texas, and address the needs
of the growing population in the Metroplex."
She also expressed satisfaction at returning to the
Criminal Jurisprudence, a committee upon which she
served in her last session. During that time, she
co-authored Jessica's Law, which strengthens
penalties for those who commit sex crimes against
children.
"The issues which come before Criminal Jurisprudence
are very serious, and I take my work in that
committee very seriously. This session, I will be
able to continue my ongoing effort to crack down on
crime and defend Texas' most vulnerable citizens --
her children. I was proud of the work my committee
did last session, such as passing Jessica's Law, and
look forward to doing more for our criminal justice
system this session."
For more information on committee assignments or any
other issue, Rep. Pierson encourages persons to
contact her by telephone at (512) 463-0562, by
e-mail at District93.Pierson@house.state.tx.us or
visit the Texas House of Representatives
website at www.house.state.tx.us.
Support Our Troops.
They haven't forgotten us and we haven't forgotten them.
Last December we asked you for your donations to soldiers
serving in Iraq.
The 56th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT), based out of
Fort Worth, is home to over 3,000 soldiers, many of them
currently deployed overseas, with their families residing
right here in our home towns. We were proud to send a piece
of home to the troops while they are deployed, especially
during the holidays. We sent 12 boxes of the following
items:
Comforts: tea tree oil foot powder, bandanas, socks,
disposable cameras, calling cards
Food: beef jerky, hard candy (no chocolate), gum,
cookies, snacks, tuna kits
Entertainment: DVD's, magazines/reading material,
puzzle books, cards, dominoes, board games, writing
materials
To the 56th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, we thank
you for your sacrifice. And to the many people who
offered their overwhelming support to these young
men and women, we thank you for your support of our
troops!

Grand Prairie NAACP
celebrates 100!
The Grand Prairie Chapter of the NAACP
celebrated the 100th year anniversary of the
founding of the organization with a Freedom Fund
Brunch on January 31, 2009. The brunch was held at
the Ruthe Jackson Center in Grand Prairie.

The Freedom Fund Brunch is a time of celebration and
commemoration. State Representative Paula Pierson
recognized the significance of the 100 year
anniversary and the importance the NAACP plays in
the lives of people of all backgrounds in America
by making a special trip back from Austin to attend
the event.
Sharde Tate and Robert Palmer were presented with
two special awards recognizing their outstanding
community service and commitment to education. Both
attend school in Grand Prairie and have excelled
both academically and socially. Sharde and Robert
are examples of what all students should strive for.
The
Black History Month Gala was a spectacular event in
celebration of Black History Month. The Grand
Prairie Independent School District celebrated this
occasion with wonderful entertainment performed
entirely by Grand Prairie students themselves
followed by an awards ceremony.
A flag that was flown over the Texas Capitol in
Austin was donated by Rep. Pierson in honor of those
who have committed their time, money and efforts to
ensure all students in Grand Prairie receive a great
education. The flag and a letter of recognition will
be preserved in the Dalworth Museum.
